Timofti in Bratislava: Broad reformation and modernization process is taking place in Moldova

President Nicolae Timofti is taking part in the Central European Summit of Heads of State that is held in Slovakia’s capital Bratislava. In his speech, Nicolae Timofti said that a broad reformation and modernization process is taking place in Moldova, in accordance with the European principles and standards, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the presidential press service.

“Our key objectives on a short term are to finish the legal procedures for signing the Association Agreement with the EU, so that we associate politically and integrate economically, and to liberalize the visa regime with the European Union. The global crisis represented for Moldova an occasion for rethinking its development model. Emphasis was placed on innovations, new technology and investments,” said Nicolae Timofti.

He also said that Moldovan companies provide IT solutions to the UK, Russia, countries of Africa and Central America. “We want to abandon the old bureaucratic model and implement electronic governance, reducing thus the administrative burden on businesses and optimizing public services. We made significant changes as regards the regulation of business activity. Important laws were adopted on competition and state aid, which will enable to ensure an increased security level for the investors who want to come to Moldova,” stated the President.

According to the head of state, ensuring of the country’s energy security by diversifying the sources of energy is one of Moldovan authorities’ priorities in the post-crisis period. This year, there will be built a gas pipeline between Moldova and Romania. Nicolae Timofti expressed his conviction that the major transformations underwent by Moldova will produce results following the recent installation of a new, pro-European government in Chisinau, headed by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca.
