“Moldova's integration in the EU is possible only with the rule of law in place, when nobody is above the law. In order to reach this goal, we need professional, flexible and, just as important, patriotic structures”, said President Nicolae Timofti during a festivity occasioned by the National Day of Police, IPN reports.
The head of state said that Moldova's integration in the EU will be facilitated by the strengthening of an European police service, able to maintain public order and peace, to respect human rights and freedoms and to protect the values and interests of the state and of the people.
“I encourage you to continue the efforts to get closer to the interests of the citizens and to fight abuses and corruption within the system. These are actions bound to increase the people's trust in police. In recent years, with the support of the government and our foreign partners, the police managed to upgrade its equipment and logistics significantly. Now the focus is on institutional management and the implementation of efficient technologies and tactics”, said Timofti.
The National Police Day is marked on December 18.
