The European Union’s decision to grant a liberalized visa regime to Moldova is political and when it will be taken does no depend on the Moldovan authorities, considers Foreign Policy Association expert Eugen Revenco. “Half a year earlier or later is not so important. It is more important for this regime to be enjoyed by everyone,” the expert said in a roundtable meeting on the implementation of the second phase of the visa liberalization plan with the EU, IPN reports.

According to Eugen Revenco, the authorities must be aware of everything that is going on in the country and the EU, while the political crisis caused by dismissing the Government should not affect the negotiation process and the country’s European path. “I think that the maintenance of a functional Government will produce greater benefits to the country that any kind of results in the early elections,” he stated.

Daniela Morari, head of the Foreign Ministry’s Division of Political Cooperation with the EU, said that Moldova was assessed by 11 EU missions in all the areas. All the 11 missions will present by a monitoring report. Based on them, the European Commission will draft a general report that will be published in June. For its part, Moldova will prepare the second report on the implementation of the second phase of the visa liberalization plan.

Danielei Morari also said that the liberalized regime does not mean the abolition of visas. The Moldovans will be ale to travel freely in the countries of the Schengen area for 90 days in half a year. A liberalized regime does not mean permits of stay or exclusion of the study visas for the EU. Only the Moldovans who will have biometric passports will be able to travel freely to the EU.
