Journalist Valerii Demidetski said time has come when the Transnistrian conflict can be settled with the Russian Federation. According to him, the question is if this is wanted by the Republic of Moldova. The journalist developed the issue also following the change of Government in Russia several days ago, IPN reports.
“The question is if we need this given not only the shadow history of the Transnistrian region, but also the fact that a large part of our politicians realize that they will have to build the Moldovan state when the Transnistrian dispute is resolved. They will have to fulfill the promises made to the population 30 years ago, but not to tell tales that our problems will be solved by Brussels, Moscow, Bucharest or other capital cities,” the journalist noted in the program “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel.
According to Valerii Demidetski, no one will be able to resolve the problems related to the Transnistrian region except for the Moldovan authorities. If there is will, Moldova will be helped by other states.
The journalist considers the Transnistrian settlement process enters a new stage. Until now, given that the Russian gas transmission system went through the Transnistrian region, a lot depended on this and the people in Transnistria were considered “protectors” of this system. Now that it was decided to ensure the reverse flow regime for natural gas, the transmission system remains in the past.
Former Prime Minister Alexandru Muravschi said that with the replacement of the Government of Russia, it is interesting to see if the special representative of the Russian Federation for relations with Moldova Dmitry Kozak will also be changed. As to the relations between Chisinau and Tiraspol, the replacement of the Russian Government will not have a major impact as the executive of Russia plays rather a technical role.
