The applications to be registered as contenders in the presidential race submitted by Octavian Țîcu and Dorin Chirtoacă, who were fielded by the National Unity Party and the UNION Electoral Bloc, will be examined most probably in the October 6 meeting of the Central Election Commission, the head of the CEC’s Communication Division Rodica Sîrbu stated for IPN.

Asked to comment on the press reports that Octavian Țîcu wasn’t admitted to the electoral race, Rodica Sârbu said the CEC will not comment on the political statements of those who applied to be registered as contenders.

On October 3, Octavian Țîcu posted on Facebook that he wasn’t admitted to the presidential race by the CEC for the reason that he didn’t gather the necessary number of valid signatures. Octavian Țîcu noted that over 5,000 signatories of the 20,000 collected were thrown into the waste bin, mostly because a figure was written incorrectly in the series of the identity card and because the domicile was written inaccurately. “This was done in a move to push us below the limit of 15,000, which is to 14,548 signatures, accepting only 10 of 20 districts from which over 700 signatures were collected in each of them,” he commented.

Octavian Țîcu blames Igor Dodon. “The fear of Dodon and Moscow of my eventual participation in this campaign was so big that they decided to eliminate any risk and to remove me from the race. I’m the only unionist, anti-system alternative that wasn’t compromised by political schemes and agreements, is incorrupt and able to fight against the regime till its definitive removal.”
