Three wastewater treatment systems will be set up in Andruşul de Jos village of Cahul district thanks to Japan’s assistance. On September 12, a grant contract to the value of $97,800, financed by the Government of Japan within “Kusanone” Program, was signed for implementing this project, IPN reports.

The Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Moldova said that these systems are necessary to provide a safe and hygienic environment for students and teaching staff in primary and secondary schools, thus contributing to the focusing on their studies and education. It will also ensure a healthy living environment for the 2,335 inhabitants who use water from wells and will help reduce soil contamination in the area.

According to Ambassador Yamada Yoichiro, the conditions for people’s health will be improved as the Republic of Moldova moves towards joining the European Union.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects “Kusanone” was launched in the Republic of Moldova in 2008. So far, Japan has provided $7.3 million in grant funding for 90 projects, except for the new project, in the fields of healthcare, education and public utilities.
