The villages Razeni, Cigarleni and Molesti of Ialoveni district created the first intercommunity cooperation association in the district. In the future, the association will manage all the water and sewer pipes, the public lighting system and the cleanup, road maintenance and territorial development services, IPN reports.

The intercommunity cooperation project is implemented within the Joint Integrated Local Development Program that is implemented with the assistance of UNDP and UN Women.

According to a communiqué of UNDP, by the administrative integration of the public services, the mayor’s offices of Razeni, Cigarleni and Molesti will significantly reduce the costs of administering the communal services and will strengthen the local capacities for developing the local infrastructure.

By December 1, the intercommunity association will purchase a multifunctional tractor that will be involved in snow removal and road leveling works, work to rehabilitate and build the water supply system and to maintain the drainage system.

It is projected that the snow removal works in the three villages the coming winter will cost by 25% less than in 2013, while the intervention speed will rise to at most 12 hours of the falling of snow, as against 2-3 days earlier. The next step will be the development of the centralized waste collection service from next spring.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the Governments of Denmark and Sweden and forms part of the decentralization reform of Moldova. The donors offered a grant of US$100,000 for managerially and technically strengthening the new intercommunity association.
