Three school libraries will be modernized with the support of UNDP Moldova and OTP Bank

The libraries of three schools will be modernized and equipped, so that they become real points of attraction for students and teachers. The beneficiary institutions "Mihail Ciachir" High School in Ceadir-Lunga, "Grigore Vieru" High School in Briceni and "Ion Creanga" High School in Falesti are part of the Model Schools Network. The total investment is 2 million lei and aims to transform school libraries into modern multifunctional hubs, where students will be able to enjoy reading, as well as various interactive activities.

The modernization project is financed by OTP Bank and coordinated by UNDP Moldova.

By modernizing school libraries, we contribute to transforming them into attractive learning and interaction spaces, with modern equipment, multipurpose facilities and highly motivated and dedicated staff,” said Daniela Gasparikova, UNDP Resident Representative to the Republic of Moldova.

Multifunctional libraries with digital tools will help them develop new interests and build a prosperous future. The transformation of the libraries will being at the entrance, with the reorganization of the book display to stimulate interest in reading. Spaces for individual and group study, reading areas equipped with modern digital devices will encourage students to develop essential digital agility, critical thinking and communication skills. Free Wi-Fi will facilitate access to information and reading materials in digital or audio format. Special attention has been paid to the planning of the interior space, so as to provide accessibility for people with disabilities, adults and children.

The concepts of multifunctional libraries were presented and analyzed in public debates, with the participation of teachers and students. The final version of the concepts will be adjusted according to community suggestions.

The project is part of a wider initiative supported by the European Union, UNDP and UNICEF entitled "Advancing quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all". The project aims to develop the educational infrastructure in 10 model schools in the Republic of Moldova, contributing to the creation of centers of excellence at district level.

The Model Schools Network is a project of the Ministry of Education and Research. Authorities have chosen 35 schools, which will be transformed into models both in terms of infrastructure and teaching methods. The initiative is supported by the World Bank, the European Union, Norway, Poland, UNDP, UNICEF and other international organizations. Several private companies support the project within the public-private partnership "Moldova for Education".
