Three politicians returned to the Top 10 rankings of the most influential politicians in Moldova. These are Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca (seventh position), the leader of the PDM Marian Lupu (eighth) and the first deputy chairman of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc (ninth). The October rankings were presented in a news conference at IPN. The first three positions are taken by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat and Speaker Igor Corman, IPN reports.

Director of the Institute for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon” Anatol Taranu said that Iurie Leanca has the greatest political influence in Moldova and will not lose ground in the coming months.

Vlad Filat climbed two spots from the September rankings. In October, the experts approved of his performance at the Summit in Brussels, alongside the leaders of the ruling parties, and on the field. The Liberal-Democratic leader’s contribution to organizing the November 3 assembly also played an important role.

Igor Corman slipped one spot to the third as he was less visible as regards the activities performed to prepare the November 3 event.

The fourth position is taken by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman. Anatol Taranu said it is normal for Natalia Gherman to rank fourth as a very important event for Moldova will take place soon – the Vilnius Summit.

President Nicolae Timofti ranks fifth, up two spots from September. The experts approved of his participation in the CIS Summit held in Minsk, where he spoke about Moldova’s decision to follow the path to European integration.

The Communist leader Vladimir Voronin fell one spot to the sixth. In October the Communists were very active, but this activism didn’t produce notable results. “The ‘velvet revolution’ of the Communists stagnates and was already named the revolution of broken drums,” said the expert.

The seventh position was taken by Dorin Chirtoaca. Anatol Taranu stated the mayor is in a very difficult situation as the PL, which he represents, is in a serious crisis. However, the experts said that Dorin Chirtoaca overcame a great danger in October – the referendum on his dismissal.

Marian Lupu is again among the top ten politicians as he took part in the Brussels Summit together with the leaders of the ruling parties and owing to his contribution to preparing the November 3 assembly.

Vlad Plahotniuc comes ninth. Anatol Taranu said that though he renounced the seat of MP, he anyway remains an important political figure. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar remained on the tenth spot. This is a traditional position for him and is due to Moldova’s economic relations.

The rankings were compiled with the assistance of 34 experts.
