There police officers, one from Orhei and another two from Ialoveni, have been arrested by officers of the National Anticorruption Center on suspicion of passive corruption, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Center.
In the first case, a prosecution officer of the Orhei Police Inspectorate is suspected of asking for €750 from a person for not holding him accountable for driving under the influence. A criminal case over passive corruption was started against him. He was put under arrest for 72 hours.
The other two police officers, of the Ialoveni Police Inspectorate, are suspected of asking for €300 from a man for not writing a report on DUI against him.
If they are found guilty, the policemen will serve up to ten years in jail and will be fined up to 60,000 lei.
The anticorruption officers also arrested a Chisinau lawyer suspected of traffic of influence. He asked for and took 16,000 lei from a person for influencing prosecutors to take a favorable decision in favor of his client. The lawyer was caught red-handed and is now held in the remand unit of the National Anticorruption Center.
