Three people were rescued from drowning in Braniste village of Rascani district. A fisherman collapsed under the ice and two men rushed to his aid with a boat, but the boat also started to sink. Rescuers arrived in time to avoid a tragedy, IPN reports.
It happened on Monday morning. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations noted that the fisherman collapsed under the thin ice of the lake. From the shore, he was observed by the owner of the pond, who together with a mate took a boat to reach him. On the way, the men noticed that the boat was sinking.
Rescuers arrived in time and pulled out the 69-year-old fisherman, who was about 30 meters from the shore. With the help of specialized equipment, they towed away the damaged boat carrying the two men, aged 55 and 24.
Citizens are repeatedly warned about the risk of collapsing under the thin ice of rivers and ponds. Ice fishermen are advised to wear a life jacket and be tied with a 15-20 meter-long rope and a 400-500 gram weight at the other end.
In risky situations, one should call the Emergency Service 112.
