Three persons from Calarasi district aged between 35 and 40 were placed under arrest for 30 days. These are suspected of trafficking in human beings. The suspects recruited five persons, among whom a minor, to beg in Russia, IPN reports.

Employees of the Center for Combatting Trafficking in Persons of the National Investigations Inspectorate established that the victims were taken to Russia on the pretext of earning money for the treatment of a child. Thus, the traffickers obtained documents for the victims, purchased train tickets for them and accompanied them to Russia.

The money earned from begging was transmitted to the suspects and the victims weren’t paid for their work. When the police found out about this case, the victims were identified and taken back to Moldova.

The suspects face 7 to 15 years in jail for trafficking in persons.
