The police arrested three persons on suspicion that they formed part of an organized group that was involved in large fiscal frauds. Prospector Nadejda Busuioc, of the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, told a news conference that the damage done to the state was assessed at almost 10 million lei.

The arrested persons administer a number of enterprises trading in grain. They are suspected of implementing fraudulent schemes when selling agricultural products and of causing damage to the state by avoiding paying taxes.

Those arrested are also investigated for swindle. It was established that they received money from people to supply them with grain, but many of these remained without grain. “The suspects got money in cash from people for delivering grain. They made false invoices and issued guarantees that had no value when the order was claimed,” stated the prosecutor.

According to Nadejda Busuioc, the organization consisted of ten members, but only three of these have been arrested so far. The other seven are yet to be identified. The given enterprises attracted attention following complaints submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The prosecutors asked that those arrested should be held on remand for 30 days. These face up to six years in jail.
