Three pedestrians struck fatally by cars in less than 24 hours

A man aged 70 died when he was struck by a car in a crosswalk in Râșcani town in the morning of January 13. Contacted by IPN for details, Râșcani Police Inspectorate press officer Ina Moscaliuc said the 56-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and hit mortally the pedestrian. The driver faces legal proceedings as he was inebriated.

At about 7pm on January 12, a man aged 41 died after he was struck by two cars when walking along the middle of the roadway in Ratuș village of Telenești district. Press officer of the Telenești Police Inspectorate Irina Burdujan has told IPN that one of the vehicles struck the pedestrian with the right-side rear-view mirror when going out of the village towards Telenești. Immediately afterward, he was hit by another car that was trying to overtake this car by the right side. Tests showed both of the drivers weren’t inebriated. An investigation is under way.

At about 6pm the same evening, a 52-year-old man died when he was struck by a car while jaywalking in the municipality of Ungheni. General Police Inspectorate press officer Mariana Beţivu has told IPN that the man was crossing the street in a poorly lit place and the driver, who wasn’t under the influence of alcohol, didn’t see him. Legal action was taken in this case.
