If snap parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, three political entities would enter the legislative body: the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, which would be voted by 27.9% of the electors; the Party of Action and Solidarity, with 27.2% of the vote, and the Political Party “Șor” with 12.1%. Other political parties would not enter Parliament, shows a poll conducted by the sociological research company [imas].

“This is the first poll carried out by [imas] in which the order of the voting intentions changed. This time, the Bloc of Communists and Socialists comes first, even if the difference from the second place is slight. In principle, the score can be equal, given the margin of sampling error, or PAS could be in the lead. What matters here is the trend. We see how the Party “Șor” evolved to 12.1% of the net voting intentions,” Doru Petruți, [imas] director general, stated in a news conference at IPN.

Doru Petruți said the interest in the snap parliamentary elections started to grow. “We have almost 40% of persons who said they are interested. At the moment, 38% know who they would vote for. 23% are rather decided, while about 40% are looking for another option or have reservations,” said Doru Petruți. Out of the respondents with a voting option, 36.1% would vote for BCS, 35.2% for PAS, while 15.7% for “Șor”.

The respondents of the poll were asked to give grades of 1 to 10 to a list of politicians. With cumulated grades of 7 to 10, the mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban came in first. The second place is taken by the former President, Socialist Igor Dodon, while the third spot is occupied by former President, Communist Vladimir Voronin. The leader of “Șor” Party Ilan Șor comes next, with a growth primarily in northern Moldova. According to Doru Petruți, this fact was influenced by the elections in Bălți. President Maia Sandu ranked fifth with a downward trend compared with the previous surveys.

As regards the socioeconomic situation, Doru Petruți said that this has worsened. Over 70% of those polled said the direction followed by the country is incorrect. “The level of dissatisfaction with the living conditions rose significantly, to almost 60% of fully unsatisfied or not really satisfied persons. The comparisons with the previous year show a worth situation. 55% of those polled consider their life is now worse or somehow worse compared with last year, even if this was a pandemic year. The level of optimism decreased considerably. One in four respondents said they are optimistic about the way in which they will live in a year. But we have a record level of 48% of pessimistic persons as regards a worse or somehow worse life,” stated the company’s director.

Also, the respondents were asked to choose between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. 46% of those surveyed picked the European Union, while 39% the Eurasian Economic Union. Fifteen of those interviewed didn’t know or didn’t answer.

The poll was carried out during January 24 - February 14 and covered a sample of 1,123 respondents. The face-to-face interviews were conducted in Romanian and Russian. The margin of sampling error is ±3%.

The poll was commissioned by “Public Media”.
