Three more people arrested in Albita smuggling case

The Prosecutor General’s Office arrested 3 more people suspected of involvement in the cigarettes smuggling attempt at Albita customs, on March 5. Two of them are accused to be accomplices, while the third is thought to be an organizer. All three, ages 28, 29 and 34 respectively, are Moldovan citizens, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a PGO press release, one of the suspects was chief of shift in Leuseni customs, and another one was inspector at the same customs office. Prosecutors interdicted them to leave the country. The third man, who founded a company in Romania, was arrested for 72 hours, accused of organizing smuggling and is being held in the penitentiary of the Center for Fighting Economic Crimes and Corruption. On June 25, another Moldovan was arrested in the same case. The Centru District Court sentenced the 28-year-old to 30 days of home arrest. On March 5, early in the morning, border police and customs officers discovered 700,000 cigarettes packs hidden in a truck from Moldova.
