Three children, pupils at different schools in Chisinau, were injured in traffic accidents on Monday. Ion Roscovanu, Road Safety Inspector of the Chisinau Traffic Police, has told Info-Prim Neo that the children were injured while jaywalking. The first accident occurred at around 14:00 on Dacia Blvd. A Daewoo-Nexia car, taxi 1422, struck a fourth-grade pupil at Elena Alistar Lyceum. The boy, who suffered strong mental stress, was transported to Valentin Ignatenco Hospital. At about 17:00, a first grader girl attending Petru Movila School was hit by a Lada car on Ion Jumatii Str. Having suffered multiple traumas, the girl was admitted to the intensive care section of the same hospital. Several minutes later, a sixth-grade student at the school no.53 was stricken by a Volkswagen-Golf on Alecu Russo Str. The boy suffered brain concussion. The Traffic Police urge parents not to let their children unsupervised, especially when they have to cross a street. The traffic agents also appeal to drivers, who are asked to give priority to children, even if they cross the street recklessly or outside a designated crosswalk. 19 traffic accidents without victims were recorded on Monday. 105 drivers were fined for speeding and 19 pedestrians for jaywalking. 13 other tickets were issued for drunk-driving.
