Three former education ministers obliged to pay €3,000 damages

The Buiucani district court accepted the application filed by the Prosecutor General in the interests of the Ministry of Finance, which requests that ex-ministers of education Valentin Beniuc, Victor Ţvircun and Larisa Savga be obliged to pay €3,000 damages. The legal recourse was taken following the passing by the European Court of Human Rights of judgment in the case of Tatiana Cazacu vs Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. Tatiana Cazacu worked for the Ministry of Education. She was dismissed from her post several years ago. The national courts ruled that she should be reinstated. According to the prosecutors, the three former ministers are responsible for the non-implementation of the decision to reinstate Tatiana Cazacu in her post and non-payment of salary to her for the period of forced absence from work and, consequently, for the conviction of Moldova by the ECHR. The Government reached am amicable settlement with the plaintiff, admitting the violation of the right to a fair trial and to the protection of property. The Prosecutor General lodged an application to court, asking obliging the former ministers to pay damages to Tatiana Cazacu. The decision can be appealed to the Chisinau Court of Appeals.
