Three employees of National Philharmonic to be tried in fire case

Three employees of the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” will stand trial for violating the fire safety rules as a result of which the building was destroyed in fire last September. The Chisinau Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation and sent the case to court, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, on September 24, 2020, being obliged to take all the necessary measures to ensure safety, including to prevent professional risks, the chief engineer, who also served as labor protection engineer, instructed the superior technician and the inferior of this to execute works to clear sanitary facility No. 1 and to cut steel pipes.

Without supervising the woks performed with a grinder, simultaneously with repair, building and other works, contact with particles of incandescent steel with flammable materials situated nearby was allowed and the fire that started spread and engulfed the whole building.

As a result, the architectural facility with the status of protected building, estimated at 5.3 million lei, was destroyed. The areas rented by a business entity in the same building were also damaged, the damage being gauged at 3.5 million lei.

The three plead not guilty. They will be tried outside custody and face a fine or a maximum jail term of two years.
