A policeman and his wife died on Sunday after the car by which they were travelling was hit by another car on the M5 route, on the way to Edineț district. Their 10-year-old child and his grandmother were transported to the hospital in a serious condition. Shortly afterward, the woman died, IPN reports.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, the family's car was hit by a Mercedes that was not equipped with tires for the cold season. The driver, aged 19, went out the wrong way and hit the Hyundai head-on. The second car was being driven by a 44-year-old man, an employee of the Drochia Police Inspectorate. Both he and his wife, aged 42, died on the spot. The woman who died at the hospital was 62 years old.
The child was admitted to the Balti Clinical Hospital. Contacted by IPN for details, spokeswoman of the medical institution Andreea Galici said that the 10-year-old girl is in a serious but stable condition and is conscious. She is in the intensive care unit.
The driver of the Mercedes car was not hurt, but was transported to the hospital for examinations. The alcohol test was negative. After checks, it was established that the man does not have a driving license, and the document issued by another state was not presented. The young man was detained for 72 hours.
