Three cars will be distributed to the Northern Division of the Social Assistance Agency to expand the mobile teams in the north of the country. The vehicles, worth 1.15 million lei, were purchased as part of the “Moldova Assist: improving access to quality public services and social cohesion” Project, financed by the European Union and implemented by People in Need Moldova.

With these vehicles, social assistance workers will be able to offer services to an increased number of beneficiaries, especially in the more remote and hard-to-reach towns and communities, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection said in a press release.

According to Minister Alexei Buzu, in early 2024, the Mobile Team Service existed in only 15 districts out of 33. The donation will contribute to the expansion of the service, to offer more social protection to people in the districts of Briceni, Ocnița, and Râșcani.

Mobile Team is a social service intended for people with disabilities. The team offers social assistance and support at the beneficiaries’ homes, based on the identified needs, as well as counseling and support to the people involved in their inclusion process.

Marcia Kammitsi, program manager at the EU Delegation to Moldova, stated that the European Union is committed to improving lives through social services. The donated vehicles will provide specialized services to reduce the challenges that people may face.

Guillermo Llinas, Country Director, People in Need Moldova, said that the new mobile units will provide quick and flexible support, ensuring that essential services and programs can continue to operate without interruption. Guillermo Llinas added that this will also help strengthen the local organizations involved, which are already doing excellent work, and give a boost to those just starting out.
