Five men dressed in black uniforms with the word Police on them and with firearms stopped a car in which three businessmen from the Transnistrian region travelled, handcuffed these and took them to a house on the outskirts of Chisinau, where they were held for a day. The individuals are investigated for blackmail and threatening with death, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, it happened on the Chisinau-Anenii Noi road near Chetrosu village last February. After setting free the three businessmen, the suspects asked for US$ 100 000 from them. The businessmen paid the given sum under threats.
As a result of special investigation measures, the authors of the offense were identified and arrested, except for one man, who was kidnapped in Tiraspol town several days after receiving the money from the three businessmen, by order of very influential criminal leaders from Transnistria. This hasn’t been yet found. It is alleged that he was assassinated as a result of the settling of an old score between the group members.
Another member of the group was earlier convicted of involvement in murder by order and served 12 years in jail. This is an active member and one of the closest helpers of the thief in law “Micu”.
The suspects face 13 to 15 years in jail.
