The three banks that are under special administration – Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank – no longer accept deposits starting with today, August 7. The measure is contained in a decision taken by the Administration Board of the National Bank of Moldova, IPN reports, quoting the websites of the three banks.
It is banned signing new contracts and extending the contacts signed before the date of the given ordinance.
The liquidation of the three banks was recommended by the Supreme Security Council that convened on August 5. The same day, after the meeting of the National Committee on Financial Stability, held in the Government Building, Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet announced the launch of the liquidation process.
The National Bank governor Dorin Dragutanu said the three banks do not have a future as they are not financially viable and do not have viable information systems, while the clients mainly left. He estimated that the three banks will be liquidated at a cost of 14.840 billion lei at the most.
