Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti today received letters of accreditation from the ambassadors of Latvia, Japan and the Arabic Republic of Egypt, IPN learned from a press release of the President's Office.
The Moldovan head of state told Latvian ambassador Juris Poikans about his confidence that Latvia's chairmanship of the Council of the European Union, which begins next year, as well as the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga in May 2015 will contribute to the process of Moldova's European integration.
In turn, Juris Poikans stressed that Moldovan authorities have to implement the provisions of the EU Association Agreement in order to strengthen democratic institutions and the country's economic development. The diplomat is confident that the upcoming visit of Latvian President Andris Berzins in Chisinau will help to boost bilateral relations.
During the meeting with Japanese Ambassador Shigeki Sumi, Nicolae Timofti pleaded for harnessing the trade and economic potential between the two countries. The Moldovan official also expressed Chisinau's interest in attracting investment from Japanese companies.
Japan's ambassador said that his country will provide the technical and financial assistance necessary for Moldova's sustainable development and for maintaining stability in the region.
President Timofti and Egyptian ambassador Mohamed Alaaeldin Aly Shawky Elhadidi agreed on the intensification of cooperation in areas of common interest such as agriculture, education and tourism.
