It is said that the pork dishes are indispensable on the Christmas table. Given such a tradition, the sellers reduced the prices, but the buyers do not burst into shops, Info-Prim Neo's correspondent reported, after questioning a number of persons involved in preparations.
The traders say the price of pork has decreased significantly, from 110-130 lei per kilogram last year to 60-70 lei at present. “We reduced the price about two times because there were no buyers, but they do not hurry to come even now,” said Vladimir Chetrosu, a seller working in the Central Market in Chisinau.
The prices of pork products vary depending on the selling place. In butchers, the pork products costs from 100 lei up, while in the Central Market – from 60 lei up.
The pork filet in butchers costs about 120 lei per kilogram, the ham - 103 lei, while in the market – around 90 lei. The pig's trotters cost between 27 and 30 lei.
Buyer Antonina Braila said that even if the prices are lower, they are anyway high given the economic crisis. “However, I bought a piece of meat to make forcemeat rolls of cabbage for Christmas,” the buyer said.
By tradition, the pork is served with red wine. Yet, the vodka and cognac are now in greater demand. “We have different types of wine on sale, but the people prefer stronger alcoholic drinks,” said seller Aliona Istrati.
She also said that the prices of certain alcoholic drinks went up, but the number of buyers has now increased, before Christmas. A bottle of wine costs minimum 35 lei, of vodka - 50 lei, of champagne – 40 lei, of cognac - 85 lei.
A Christmas dinner that will include roast pork, pork sausages, forcemeat rolls of cabbage, meat jelly and pound cake will cost an estimated 700-800 lei.
