Those that will delay the putting in commission of the facilities at the Oil Terminal in Giurgiulesti will be regarded as traitors of Moldova, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev said at Wednesday’s meeting of the Government. But he did not mention what punishments will be imposed. According to the news agency Info-Prim Neo, the Minister of Economy and Trade Igor Dodon and the Minister of Transport and Road Management Vasile Ursu have been charged with the implementation of projects at the Terminal. On Wednesday, January 30, the Government gave green light for starting the construction of the fluvial passenger port. A sum of 5 million lei will be allocated for the purpose. The state-owned company “Ungheni Fluvial Port” was designated as general contractor. According to the Premier, the passenger port, the rail line Cahul-Giurgiulesti and the first wharf of the cargo port would be put in commission until August 27 – Moldova’s Independence Day. The grain terminal would start working in May. But Tarlev said that it would be very well if the first path of the passenger port is opened on June 1, before holidays, so that the people could use the services of the port. The Premier instructed the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to negotiate with the travel companies so that these offer holidays and trips by river. The Oil Terminal in Giurgiulesti is functional. Oil products imported by sea have been sold on the Moldovan market since the end of last year. The Government of Moldova signed the investment agreement for implementing projects in the south of Moldova at the start of 2005. The investor pledged to complete the construction of the Giurgiulesti Oil Terminal, which has a capacity of 2 million tonnes of oil a year, to build a passenger and cargo port nearby, to open 50 filling stations and to offer about 3,000 new jobs. The overall investments are estimated at about 250 million USD.
