A 52-year-old woman who suffered from cirrhosis for many years underwent a liver transplant operation. The donor was her brother. The surgery lasted for about 8 hours and was performed by a team of doctors from Romania and specialists of the Chisinau National Clinical Hospital.

The head of the Surgery Department, ex-minister of heath Vladimir Hotineanu, who formed part of the team, has told IPN that the operation went smooth, without complications, and the patient’s state of health is stable. The donor may be discharged in a week, while his sister needs a rehabilitation period of about 40 days.

Vladimir Hotineanu said the woman was in the worst condition among the patients who underwent liver transplant operations until now.

The liver transplants were resumed in Moldova on February 23.
