Two participants in the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format are not sincere – formally there is Tiraspol and Moscow, but practically there are only those from Moscow, said the chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat, quoted by IPN.
In an interview for Radio Free Europe, Vlad Filat said sincerity is important as they can say one thing, but do another one. The discussed problems can be solved immediately if there is will.
The former Premier believes that there is no better solution now than the 5+2 format. But this format can be improved. For example, the United States and the European Union can change their status of observers into the status of fully-fledged participants.
As to the negotiated Third Basket, which refers to the special status of the Transnistrian region, the former Premier said that there is now no formal consent on the part of Tiraspol. “Those who represent Tiraspol and Russia at the talks do not yet want to launch these negotiations where a status for the Transnistrian region is to be identified,” said Vlad Filat.
The leader of the PLDM is convinced that the European integration process will positively influence the process of reunifying the country. This process implies the solving of people’s problems, not the creation of new problems.
