In the Republic of Moldova, there is no political will to create an authority that would ask the public servants how did they accumulate their property while holding the posts, Vlad Turcanu, political commentator and ex-presidential adviser, stated in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

According to him, an authority that would check the possessions of functionaries could not be constituted and would not be because the procedures were improper when the Integrity Council was formed and independent experts pointed to this and the power didn’t want to admit people who would put their knowledge into practice at such an institution. “The politicians would never allow someone to look into their pockets as they believe that they can continue to use the public funds in the Republic of Moldova as they want,” stated the commentator.

Director of the Resource Center for Human Rights Sergiu Ostaf, a member of the Integrity Council of the National Integrity Authority, said the problem resides not in the candidates who applied for the post of NIA president, but in the fact that not many apply for this. “Two candidates in this contest are not enough. There should be five, six, seven, ten persons who would definitely include suitable candidates for this very important post,” he stated. He added that when the relevant law was adopted, a transition procedure to enable integrity inspectors to continue work while the institution does not have a manager wasn’t envisioned.
