Former MP Victor Stepaniuc believes that there are positive signals in relations with the Russian Federation, but this is insufficient for a country like Moldova that has big problems and that should be interested in establishing good and intense relations with Russia. According to him, steady steps need to be taken as to establish good relations with Russia. The opinion was expressed during the NTV Moldova program "Glavnîi vopros".
"There is progress in relation to Russia. This includes meetings, the arrival of Dmitri Kozak, some interesting events in the socio-economic life and in political relations. However, the most important thing that the government had to establish during these three months, but didn't, was establishing new relations with Russia on all levels. In addition, the arrival of the Russian Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoygu, was recognized as an unofficial visit which generated many questions, even accusations, inside the government. This is not good because, in one way or another, this information spreads”, said Victor Stepaniuc.
In his opinion, these relations are not suitable, especially in the context of the future gas supply contract which Moldova is going to sign with the Russian Federation.
The journalist Valerii Demidețkii argues that the Republic of Moldova has several problems. These problems include goods export issues, the Transnistrian issue and the polarization of political sympathies. In this situation only a short-sighted politician would carry out a unilateral policy, claims the journalist. "Russia can live on without us, while we can't. Russia can live like this another 10-15 years or so, while our country "burns", says Valerii Demidețkii.
The journalist considers that Prime Minister Maia Sandu is a pragmatic politician and understands that she must go on a visit to the Russian Federation. In his opinion, Maia Sandu has two problems: the first problem is her electorate and the second - the fact that the government cannot deliver fast results, which are expected by the people.
