There are about 90 thousand unemployed in Moldova

The number of unemployed in the 2nd trimester of 2006 constituted 90 thousand persons. Unemployment affects men to a greater extent – 62.2% and persons from the urban regions – 59.6%, data of the National Bureau of Statistics show. To the moment the research was performed, only 2.0% of the total unemployed were receiving a form of instruction. 70.8% of unemployed are persons have work experience. The medium length of unemployment in the country is 22 months. Of the total figure of unemployed about 39% of them do not have a work place for a period of 12 months and more, and 23.5% are young persons (15-24 years). The rate of unemployment (the share of unemployed in the total active population) in the country registered a value of 6.4%, maintaining practically at the level of the similar period of 2005. Significant disparities of the rate of unemployment between men (8.7%) and women (4.6%) was registered; urban regions – 8.7% compared with rural – 4.6%. The rate of unemployment of young persons reached 12.6%. In light of the relationship with the work market, there are two important categories within the inactive population: persons who are discouraged and persons which left the country in order to work abroad. The share of persons discouraged in searching a work place constitutes 3.1% of the total inactive population. The number of persons who were declared working abroad is about 309 thousand persons, or 20.3% of the total inactive population. 2/3 of those working abroad are men. The same share of persons who left abroad from rural localities was registered.
