The Year of the Youth’s theme will be established by national youth contest

Holding its first meeting on Friday, February 1, the national commission for the management of activities dedicated to the Year of the Youth discussed the plan of events for 2008 proposed by the Government. The meeting was chaired by President Vladimir Voronin, Info-Prim Neo reports. The President outlined the priority areas that should be included in the plan: equalisation of employment opportunities for young men and women; development of skills specific to the current needs of the labour market; intercultural dialogue; social cohesion and inclusion of young persons; youth participation in the public life and in decision-making, etc. For each task area the authorities will develop specific programmes which will be implemented through a range of actions, such as: the week of the youth in each country’s district, research, public debates, competitions, informational campaigns, and others. The theme of the Year of the Youth will be chosen exclusively by young persons, by means of a national contest. The national commission for the management of activities dedicated to the Year of the Youth is composed of representatives of central and local authorities as well as youth NGOs.
