The World Bank nominated the winners of the Program of Small Grants 2006 for the civil society

The office of the World Bank in the Republic of Moldova nominated on Thursday, the 29th of June, nine winners of the Program for Small Grants (PSG) – 2006, from which four are from Chisinau and 5 from the territory. The winners were selected from a total number of 70 projects, from which 33 were submitted by the NGOs from the territory.
Among the winners are the Foundation for Moldovan Japanese relationships, The civil association “ The centre Pro- community”, the newspaper “ Literature and Art” ( „Literatura şi Arta”), the Centre for Economic, Social and Political Analyses; the territorial organization Soroca of the Ecologic Movement from Moldova, the Invalids Society from Cimislia and others.
The winning projects were selected by a committee of experts composed of foreign donor’s representatives and civil society ones. The value of the offered grants this year is between 2500 and 6350 dollars and the total budget is of 34 thousand dollars.
The country manger of the World Bank for the Republic of Moldova, Edward Brown, mentioned during the grants awarding ceremony that the Program for Small Grants continues to attract the interest of the NGOs from the Republic of Moldova. According to the quoted source, the selected projects from this year differ from each other, but all of them focus on building social partnership in order to strength the action capacity of the citizen groups affected by the difficulties of the transition period, especially at community level.
PSG- 2006 had as main topic “ Social partnership for development”, continuing to encourage projects focused on citizens interaction with the public sector, the associative one and the private one for strengthening mechanisms of integration, responsibility and participation having the goal to fortify the results and effects of development. Also, PSG followed the development of civil activism in the territory, so that the capital NGOs participation in PSG was conditioned by actions and partnerships with the civil society from the territory.
The global budget of the PSG- 2006, financed by the World Bank constituted 3 million dollars from which 2, 5 million dollars were allocated on contest basis to World Bank offices from the client countries.
The total sum of NGOs financing from the Republic of Moldova, through the PSG during last 10 years, constituted 330 thousand dollars for 84 projects, submitted by 86 NGOs (48 national and 39 local).
