The US Ambassador to Chisinau urges the Moldovan authorities to ensure the functioning of TRM in conformity with the standards of a public institution

The US Ambassador to Chisinau Heather M.Hodges urged on the Moldovan authorities to perseverate in ensuring the activity of „Teleradio-Moldova” in conformity with the standards of a public company, expressing her hope that by adopting the new Audiovisual Code will lead to several positive changes within the named institution. The Ambassador made this declaration at the meeting with the president Vladimir Voronin.
According to a press communiqué of the Presidency, Voronin mentioned that the named project, after its examination by PACE, the project will be publicly debated, the interest of the country’s leadership is the adoption of an Audiovisual Code accepted by the society. The president announced that at the solicitation of the Moldovan authorities, at the Public Broadcasting Institution “Teleradio-Moldova” will be delegated an EU expert in broadcasting issues.
At the meeting, Heather M. Hodges mentioned about the changes produced in Moldova during her diplomatic mandate, namely the European integration dimension, settling the Transnistrian dispute and the relations with the international financial institutions. As for the Transnistrian problem, due to the implementation of the new customs regime, the Republic of Moldova regained its control over the borders and the activity of the EU border assistance mission increased the efficiency of this process, said the American diplomat.
The president thanked the US Ambassador for her productive work which coincided with a difficult period for Moldova. According to him, the support offered by USA helped Moldova to overcome the difficulties it dealt with, registering radical changes in such strategically important problems as choosing the European integration option as an absolute priority of the interior and foreign policy, using some actions that would impulse the Transnistrian problem settlement process, joining new European arrangements, resuming the collaboration with the international financial institutions.
The president decorated Heather M. Hodges with the “Honor Order” as “a sign of deep gratitude for remarkable contributions” for the development of the relationships between USA and the Republic of Moldova.
Heather M. Hodges holds the position of US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova since October 2003. She is the 5th head of the American diplomatic mission in Chisinau from the moment of establishing diplomatic relationships between the two countries in 1991.
