The unionist party “The Right” expresses its opposition to the mounting of a military parade in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on August 27, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Moldova’s independence. The party considers that the holding of a military parade with additional costs incurred from the state budget, in the current conditions in the country, is an unjustified waste of public money, IPN reports.

“The Right” also opposes the Ministry of Defense’s intention to invite a contingent of several hundred service members from Russia to the military parade. “We consider that this gesture defies the whole population of the Republic of Moldova given that the Russian Federation continues to illegally keep its army on the country’s territory. Russia was recognized by the international community as an aggressor state in the armed conflict on the Nistru, in 1992,” it is said in the press release.

Therefore, “The Right” notes that the marching by a Russian military contingent in the Great National Assembly Square is a direct insult to the international community, which during decades has supported the Republic of Moldova in its effort to escape from the area of influence of the former Soviet empire and to integrate organically into the Euro-Atlantic organizations.

“The Right” considers the Republic of Moldova cannot deliver a double speech in relation to its strategic allies Romania, the European Union, the U.S. and NATO.
