The Republic of Moldova and Transnistria must be under the same customs area, but at the same time a clear delimitation of the parts’ competences has to be instituted. This opinion was presented by Adriaan Jacobovitz de Szeged, the representative of EU in Moldova, at the meeting in Tiraspol with the head of the Commerce and Industry Chamber of the breakaway region, Vasili Kojan. According to Jacobovitz, quoted by the Russian press, the Transnistrian enterprises must be registered in Moldova and only in this way the problems will disappear. However, Kojan mentioned that the Transnistrian region is opened to a dialogue and will not undertake any pressure actions. At the same time, stated that the Moldova side should not impose either any conditions and all the decisions must be taken only as a result of consultations. Chisinau demanded for countless times from Tiraspol to register the enterprises from the region on the right side of Nistru. Starting with March 3, at the Moldova-Ukrainian border a new customs regime is in effect. Tiraspol, backed up by Russia, qualified this decision as an “economic blockade of Transnistria” whilst the international community supported this action.
