The close cooperation between the Moldovan and the U.S. authorities helped to bring an American child molester and his Moldovan accomplice to justice. These statements were made Tuesday during a news conference on the case of Anthony Mark Bianchi, an U.S. citizen, who had molested 14 boys in Moldova. U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Michael D. Kirby stated that during investigations into the case and the following trial, the American and Moldova authorities worked very closely to see the molester and his Moldovan procurer convicted. Eight minors flew to the U.S. to testify against Bianchi, and the punishment he could get is about 30 years in jail, the Ambassador added. Moldova’s Deputy Prosecutor General Vasile Pascari also mentioned the efficiency and the importance of the cooperation between the prosecution authorities of the two countries and remarked that Moldova seeks to sign with the U.S. Government a cooperation agreement in matters of criminal and civil law with a view to providing high-standard legal assistance. Deputy Minister of Interior Valentin Zubic informed that the boys are from 14 to 16 years of age and hail from villages in central Moldova. Most of them live in poor families.
