The Supreme Court of Justice on November 7 quashed partially a decision passed by the Court on January 21, 2010, whereby Popovich (Gilca) Petru (alias “Micu”) and Guzun Dumitru, who were accused of organizing and committing murders by order, were acquitted. The Court ordered that the case be retried by the Penal Board, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Under the decision of January 21, 2010, Popovici Petru was sentenced to 13 years in prison. There was upheld a part of the sentence passed on October 7, 2003, whereby he was acquitted of organizing a number of murders with aggravating circumstances.
The lawyer’s application to annul the sentence against Radulov Iurie was rejected and the conviction was upheld.
The three were also accused of creating and managing a criminal organization that committed a number of deliberate murders with aggravating circumstances and murder attempts in January 1998 – February 2002.
