Tenth edition of “Tamara Ciobanu” contest promises surprises

The tenth edition of the national folk contest “Tamara Ciobanu” opens in Chisinau on November 13. Organizers have told Info-Prim Neo that the current edition is different from the previous ones and will include surprises.
The competitors will sing only national folk songs and, obligatorily, by a song from the repertoire of Tamara Ciobanu. The dirge (funeral song) and the song without words will not be performed at the contest this year, said Galina Paslaru, senior specialist of the Union of Musicians.
Forty-eight children and 32 adults will take part in the contest. All the participants are from Moldova. The children will compete in two sections: the 6-11 age bracket and the 12-16 age bracket. The oldest participant is 75 years.
The Gala Concert will be given in the big hall of the National Philharmonic on November 22, when Tamara Ciobanu was born. All the laureates of the Top Prizes and First Prizes offered during the previous nine editions of the contest will be invited to perform at the concert.
The contest is organized by the Union of Musicians, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Education and Youth, the National Philharmonic, and the Chisinau City Hall.
The national folk contest “Tamara Ciobanu” is held once in two years.
