There is currently a “complex situation in the Transnistrian region that requires us to be vigilant”, said Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu during a meeting with Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting, Special Representative of the Polish OSCE Chairman-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process; and Ambassador Artur Dmochowski, Special Envoy of the Polish OSCE Presidency-in-Office.

During the meeting, Nicu Popescu pointed out that the Moldovan side understands the importance of avoiding actions that could lead to the destabilization of the situation in the region and negative scenarios. The Moldovan official spoke in favor of maintaining stability and peace on both banks of the Nistru, and said that the authorities in Chisinau are counting on the practical support of the Polish Presidency-in-Office of the OSCE and other foreign partners.

For his part, Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting emphasized that the OSCE is following the developments and supporting the identification of solutions through dialogue in established formats.

Related to the meeting, Poland’s Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, the current OSCE Chairman-in-Office, wrote on Twitter: “The OSCE stands with  the people on both Sides of the Dniestr/Nistru River, working for peace and stability in Moldova. I call on everyone to refrain from any actions or statements which could further increase tensions and deteriorate the security situation in the region.”
