UA-Basco managed to tie with Alfa-Basket before the final. The team from Balti won a victory in Chisinau by 62-58. However, Alfa-Basket challenges the result amid accusations of violations of the regulations.
Basco used Ukrainian player Alexandr Scutelnik, who was signed before the match. Alfa-Basket submitted a complaint to the FIBA and announced that it could refuse to play the decisive match. “They didn’t have the right to sign now Scutelnik as he played for the national team of Ukraine. I would withdraw my team from the championship, but they want to play. We will see what decision we take,” Alfa-Basket owner Oleg Sirghi has told IPN.
“If they do not play, they will be punished harshly. Alfa-Basket should not forget that I allowed them to sign four Ukrainians even if they didn’t have all the necessary documents at that time. Scutelnik was signed with all the documents in order,” president of the Moldovan Basketball Federation Alexandr Abramciuc stated for IPN.
UA-Basco Balti and Alfa-Basket Chisinau are to play the decisive match on May 28. The place of the game is not yet known.
