The recent frost left residents of Chisinau without water after tens of unprotected water installations, mainly in the private sector, got frozen. Expert teams of the water supplier “Apă-Canal Chisinau” travel to the scene to remedy the problems on request, IPN reports.
The Dispatcher’s Office of SA “Apă-Canal Chisinau” recorded about 20 cases of freezing of water pipes and water meters. The supplier reminds the consumers that additional measures to protect the pipes and meters should be taken during the cold period of the year.
To minimally reduce the unpleasant situations, the consumers should ensure the protection and physical integrity of water meters and basements of blocks against frost, while the apartment building managers should thermally insulate the internal sewer and water pipes.
To avoid accidents and useless costs, the water branch pipes and meters should be insulated with special material and only water meter readings should be left open. Under the legislation, the consumers are obliged to carry out these works.
The supplier warns that if the given conditions are not met, it will not bear responsibility for the subsequent disconnection from the water supply system following the freezing of metering installations.
