Tens of persons with disabilities were informed about their rights

During the past four years, 52 persons with disabilities and their carers in the districts of Strășeni and Râșcani were informed about their rights, namely about the access to medical services, home visits by the family doctor, consultation of the commission for determining the disability degree at home, procedure for obtaining tickets to rehabilitation institutions and other local aspects.

The activities were performed as part of the Project “Local Partnerships and National Involvement for the Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities” that is implemented by the Alliance of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities of the Republic of Moldova (AOPD), with the assistance of East Europe Foundation and in partnership with the Center “Partnership for Development”, with resource provided by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Government of Sweden.

In the framework of the same project, 33 persons with special needs from the districts of Cantemir and Căușeni, together with their carers, were informed about the services and social benefits intended for persons with disabilities, psychopedagogical services offered for persons with disabilities and the access to primary legal assistance.

AOPD executive director Galina Climov in a news conference hosted by IPN said that a campaign to support persons with special needs was conducted and these persons were provided with food products, personal hygiene products and COVID-19 protective equipment.

There was carried out a study of the access to education of children with disabilities at the local level. The access to education for 55 children with special educational needs was improved through communication with the local authorities in Orhei, Anenii Noi, Cahul. A child from Edineț district, whose parents suffer from disabilities, was offered a computer. The beneficiaries of the temporary placement center for persons with disabilities (adults) in Cocieri village of Dubăsari district were provided with wheelchairs. Fifteen persons from similar centers were also offered wheelchairs, stated Galina Climov.

She added that as a result of the project, the persons with disabilities from Orhei district have access to the services of the Orhei District Hospital, which made the sanitary facilities accessible, built ramps and installed signs for persons with special needs.

According to the presented statistics, there are about 180,000 persons with disabilities in the Republic of Moldova.
