Tennis player Maxim Dubarenco wins Sturdza trophy

Moldovan tennis player Maxim Dubarenco won the 12th edition of Dimitrie Sturdza tournament. The competition ended on Sunday, February 20, in Chisinau. Dubarenco was the favorite to win and he didn’t disappoint in the final, where he defeated Ukrainian player Iuri Djavakian 7-5, 6-4, Info-Prim Neo reports. For this achievement, the 17 year old got 60 points and entered the top 50 in the ITF Juniors rankings. In January, Maxim Dubarenco became the first Moldovan to play in the junior competition of Australian Open, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments. Meanwhile, Moldova’s representative in women’s competition, Gabriela Porubin, lost 6-2 and 6-3 to Russia’s Anastasia Frolova. In the doubles, Belarusian pair Iaroslav Silov/ Iaroslav Zubko won men’s tournament. Anna Katalina Alzate Esmurzaeva from Netherlands and Irina Ciornaia from Russia won women’s competitions. Prince Dimitrie Sturdza attended the finals and handed the awards to the winners. The tournament for young tennis players aged between 13 and 18 years, gathered about 200 participants from 30 countries.
