The tendering for the design and construction of the new Wastewater Treatment Plant begins this month. The project will also include the extension of the sewerage network and will be implemented with the support of the World Bank and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. Environment, Minister of Environment Sergiu Lazarencu announced in a meeting with mayors of Soroca district, IPN reports.

The meeting participants discussed solutions to environmental problems faced in the region. The most serious problem, namely the lack of a wastewater treatment plant in the city of Soroca, is to be solved soon.

Among other topics for discussion were the implementation of an efficient waste management system to create cleaner localities. Minister Lazarencu stressed the importance of the active involvement of the inhabitants in paying the taxes for the disposal of waste. Soroca district is part of the Waste Management Region (RMD) 7/6, where the construction of approximately seven transfer stations is planned. One of these stations will be built in Hristici village of Soroca district, while the landfill will be put up in Bilicenii Noi village of Sângerei district.

In September, the European Investment Bank plans to announce a competition for the Feasibility Study for RMD 6. This region includes the districts of Șoldănești, Rezina, Telenești, Orhei and RMD 7, which comprises Balti municipality, as well as Drochia, Râșcani, Glodeni, Florești, Fălești, Sângerei, and Soroca districts.

“These measures represent an important step towards modernizing the waste management infrastructure and improving environmental conditions for all the inhabitants,” said the Ministry of Environment.
