For the first time, ten nongovernmental organizations staged an NGO Fair for Children on June 1 to raise awareness of the rights of the children, Info-Prim Neo reports. Veronica Boboc, director of the Media Center for Youth, said the aim of the event was to inform the parents and children about the NGOs that protect and promote the rights of the child and where they can seek help if need be. On this occasion, UNICEF staged an exhibition of photographs aimed at promoting children’s rights, including the right to free expression and to take part in decision making. Andriana Dylan, official responsible for communication at Terre des homes, said that the fair is designed to make the media outlets and the authorities aware of the children’s rights. “We staged an exhibition of handicrafts centering on the rights of the child. The handicrafts were made by children from Ungheni and Soroca districts and from Chisinau,” said Andriana Dylan. The Child Rights Information and Documentation Center displayed a set of materials about migration. Social worker Tatiana Stihari said they will distribute brochures to children whose parents work abroad and to children who form part of other risk groups. The brochures include the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in shortened form. The Youth-Friendly Health Center “Neovita” exhibited on the stand information about the behavior of the teens. Coordinator of volunteer activities Natalia Gandrabura said the Center takes part in the fair in order to help the adolescents integrate into adult life. Anna Susarenco, a representative of the organization Y-peer in Moldova, said they aim to promote volunteering among children and inform the parents about children’s rights. The NGO Fair was organized on the occasion of the International Children’s Day.
