Of the 27 suspected cases of measles in a camp in the village of Morenii Noi, Ungheni district, where several families from the south of Moldova took their children, have been confirmed by laboratory tests, IPN reports.

According to the National Public Health Agency, overall the family camp was visited by 22 persons from the Taraclia district (from the city of Taraclia and villages Novosiolovca, Cealâc, and Cairaclia). Only three of the 27 ill children, who are suspected of having contracted the disease, had been given a shot against measles, which is insufficient for complete protection against this infection.

According to the Comrat Public Health Center, it was concluded that the measles had been contracted by several children, during their visit to the Ukrainian city of Bolhrad, Odessa region, where they went to visit their relatives. Afterwards, these children went with their parents, alongside other families with children, to the camp in Morenii Noi.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Social Protection announced that on August 9 a new case of suspected measles has surfaced in Beșghioz, Ceadâr-Lunga district, in a child born in 2006. These children, with birth dates between 2008-2017, have manifested 38-40 degree fever, conjunctivitis, and skin eruptions. Presently, they are under the monitoring of an infection doctor and are undergoing appropriate treatment. None of the children were vaccinated against measles due to their affiliation to a certain religious denomination.

The Ministry of Health reminds everyone that measles remains a highly-contagious infection, and parents are advised to vaccinate their children, as this is the only means of protection against measles and other infectious diseases.
