Interest in books drops in adolescence and specialists speak about a crisis of reading, about a phenomenon when teenagers choose to spend less time at the library. Deputy director of the National Library for Children “Ion Creanga” told Info-Prim Neo that the interest in reading begins to drop at 11-12 years. One of the reasons might be the lack of books for this age. “There aren’t as many books as for younger children, for whom we have many illustrated books and books with stories. For teenagers, we have only books translated from English or other languages. In our country, few books are written, especially about the modern life of teenagers”, said Eugenia Bejan. There are about 3000 libraries in Moldova, two of which are national and 1500 in schools.
