An 18-year-old Ciadyr-Lunga man died after coming into contact with a 10kV electric cable as he guarded a herd of grazing cows, Info-Prim Neo learned from RED Union Fenosa utility. The accident occurred because of the wet weather and because the man ignored elementary electrical safety rules, the utility said. Reportedly, the man received the deadly electric shock when he touched a wind-downed electrical line with his whip. Witnesses said they saw a light and then heard a crack specific to a short circuit. Some saw the victim fell on the ground with one of his hands up pointing to the utility pole nearby. The man was unresponsive when the ambulance crew arrived, it was said. The utility pointed out that the line in question had been examined during a prior routine inspection and all the faults had been fixed, but rains and winds apparently weakened it.
