A teen aged 16 was hit mortally by a vehicle in a crosswalk near a shopping center in Chisinau in the evening of September 7.
According to the Emergency Medicine Institute, the ambulance doctors who traveled to the scene established that the boy was in a very serious stat. He was given first aid and was rushed to the Chisinau-based Municipal Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco”, where he died shortly afterward.
Contacted by IPN, head of the Chisinau Police Division’s press service Adrian Jovmir said the teen was struck on Bucovinei St. It is not yet known if the 33-year-old driver was speeding. A criminal case was started and the driver is to be subject to examinations so as to see if he had drunk alcohol or taken drugs. He faces three to seven years behind bars.
The 495 road accidents involving pedestrians that happened in the municipality of Chisinau last year resulted in 29 deaths. In 380 of the cases, the pedestrians were crossing the street by the crosswalk.
